I remember when my doctor told me my test results were abnormal and I was carrying the HPV virus. I immediately thought the worst before learning how common the virus actually is; Nearly 80% of sexually active women carry HPV at some point in their lives and there are actually over 150 strains of the HPV virus. For some, and for myself, the virus will often clear on its own, however some strains have been linked to a higher risk of cervical cancer. When it comes to HPV and cervical cancer, prevention and awareness are key!
When I learned that for less than the cost many co-pays ($15 with insurance, $69 without insurance), anyone can take control of their sexual health with Nurx's at-home HPV screening test I was 100% behind the concept. The kit tests for the 14 strains pf HPV that have a higher risk of leading to cervical cancer. Check out my video and photos to see what to expect in your kit and then head to Nurx's website for more information and to request your own kit. Unfortunately for me, I'm considered high risk going forward, so I'm not eligible to use Nurx's services, but it's incredibly empowering to know that women everywhere can monitor their own sexual health.
January is Cervical Health Awareness Month and Nurx is a such powerful tool in our preventative care. All women 25 to 65 can use this kit and join me in taking control of our cervical health. Just request your kit from the Nurx website, conduct your test in the comfort and privacy of your own home, and return your sample to be tested in the prepaid envelope.
It's the same quality as a pap smear and is a more affordable, convenient option to check your risk for cervical cancer. Once your results have been analyzed, a medical professional will be in touch to discuss your results. It's that easy, what are you waiting for?
