Brunch at The Gallows
11:00 AMThe Gallows in the South End positions itself as an extension of your kitchen-- and I totally got that vibe. When we arrived for brunch the remnants of a birthday were plastered on the back wall and above a high top table. While I hadn't had the pleasure of dining with Elsa and Dora previously, they made my experience at the Gallows that much more special. I love that locals regard this as an intimate neighborhood spot.
We arrived at 11:30am on a Saturday, just before things started to pickup for brunch. I ordered coffee and a cocktail; the Just Like Her, featuring lavender infused gin, lime, agave, and champagne caught my eye. It had the distinct flavor of lime, which was a nice alternative to the typical orange and peach laden breakfast cocktails.
At the suggestion of our server we split the Biscuits and Gravy. Super simple in both execution and presentation, this was a no-frills take on the Southern classic. After whetting out appetites, I opted for the Sunrise Poutine, with sunny side up eggs, country smoked ham, and cheese curds while my better half chose the Oyster Po'Boy (seriously tempting, but c'mon, Poutine!). It was an indulgent brunch and my only regret was that we didn't indulge in Blackbird Donuts, which they proudly serve at The Gallows. Seriously, why didn't I take one to go?
