Saying Goodbye to Winter Skin!
7:59 PMThere's something about Spring that gives me the desire to start fresh, to start over; to Spring clean not just my closet, but my body and mind. So I started with my body, and concentrated on my skin specifically. After months of unpredictable temperatures, windy city streets, and dry winter air my skin was dull and lackluster so I ventured to three of my favorite spas on Newbury Street in search of solutions for my winter skin woes. You can say goodbye to Winter skin with these top notch treatments!
First up, I visited my girl Alicia at Bluemercury for a Crystal Facial ($180). I love going to see Alicia because she's not one to suggest unnecessary services and her product recommendations are always spot on. (I'm in love with the M-61 Hydraboost Moisturizer & Primer she sent me home with). For my treatment, she suggested I prep my skin for spring with microdermabrasion included in their Crystal Facial. Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical skin treatment that uses microcrystals to remove dead skin from the surface to leave brighter, smoother skin. When I emerged from the treatment room I couldn't stop touching my face. It was so soft and smooth!
To address the dry skin on my body I booked a Dry Brush & Coconut Oil Massage ($115/$165 for 50/80 Minutes) at Bella Sante Day Spa & Med Spa. Maria was my masseuse and she started by dry brushing my legs, arms, chest, back, and shoulders with a short bristled brush. A sort of strange feeling to have someone else exfoliating you but I loved it nonetheless. After she slathered my body with coconut oil and proceeded with a relaxing 60 minute massage. The coconut oil smelled divine and was just what my parched winter skin needed to rehydrate. At the end of your treatment you get to take your dry brush home with you, which is a nice little treat!
Finally, just as Spring arrived I visited Skin Spa New York (now open in Boston) for a Skinfit Microcurrent Facial (starting at $65). My esthetician Johanna explained to me that this facial has everything you love about the traditional treatment, plus a microcurrent treatment with a small rechargeable device from NuFace. It temporarily freezes the muscles in your face for a short-term effect similar to Botox. It looks a little like a stun gun, and has metal attachments that deliver a subtle electric current to the face. Johanna did half my face and brought me a mirror to compare. Holy cow! There were clearly visible results; my brows were lifted and my cheeks looked fuller, which lasted for about 3 days.
And with that, my skin is cleaner, brighter, exfoliated, and much more hydrated than at the end of Winter! Now all I need is a pedicure and I'm ready for sandals and sundresses, how about you?
