Health Beat: September Update

12:10 PM

In addition to the new site design I renamed some of my regular features! Formerly Adventures in Healthy Living, Health Beat will keep you up to date on my healthy living goals and adventures, as well as all things fitness in the Boston area.

September was a great month for me! I averaged two workouts per week and managed to eat pretty well throughout the month including a one day cleanse from Pure Cocobeet (more on that in a moment). Knowing the weather would cool down dramatically in September, I made an effort to do as many outdoor classes and workouts as I could.

Two of my favorite outdoor classes included yoga on the esplanade hosted by the Esplanade Association and P.O. Fitness' Yoga/Barre class with Kendall at Normal B. Leventhal Park (aka Post Office Square). It's really great to get outside and move in the grass feeling the wind on your skin and the sun on your face. I wish I had attended sooner, but I will just have to wait until next Spring! I also did a handful of boot camp and cycling classes as well which left me quite sore at times. Burpees kill me! But despite the burn, it felt great to know that I was challenging myself and my body.

This month I also won a one day cleanse from Pure CocoBeet and Little Miss Runshine! It was my first cleanse and it was a pretty simple one which included a couple of food items. Pictured below is the entire one day cleanse. I absolutely loved the Heartbeet, Green Genes, Kickstart, and Vanilla Berry Chia Pudding! The quinoa "burgers" on a bed of arugula was a yummy dinner and left me feeling satisfied. All in all, I am not really cut out for cleanses and the price tag is quite high, but the juices were delicious and it was an interesting experience in clean eating.

On a more stylish note, Plammie Activewear opened in the Cambridgeside Galleria in early September. I was treated to some bright new gear courtesy of the lovely shop owner Plamena. Plamena's passion for unique, quality activewear in bright colors and an exclusive Brazilian Supplex material is contagious. We spent a good hour shopping her new store, trying on different styles, and dishing fashion.

I love the vivid print on these supplex crops. The mesh detail on the pant is purely decorative, but I love the look. The tank is by far my favorite for super sweaty workouts like cycling or boot camp. I hate leaving the studio looking like I just had a bucket of water dumped over my head and this breezy tank leaves me looking chic, not soaked.

That about sums it up for September! Although October has been off to a lazy start thanks to my birthday last Friday, I'm in my running clothes and ready to go; Let's do this!
