My Experience at Station Row
4:49 PM
When it comes to my hair, I am very low maintenance. I hate washing it, I never brush it, and dry shampoo is my best friend. So when Station Row invited me out to have my hair done by owner Matthew Carlson, I jumped at the chance to show my hair a little love.
Station Row is a brand new salon on Lincoln Street in Newton Highlands (easily accessible by T). It's a space he's dreamed about over the 20 years of his career and Matt couldn't be more excited about it. He warmly greeted me and showed me around the light filled space and then we got down to business.
What struck me most about Matt is his attention to detail. We spent a good five minutes talking about my hair and my lifestyle and what I like and then he spent another 5 minutes just combing through and feeling my hair and how it falls. We settled on a cut with less layers, side swept bands, a longer asymmetrical piece on the left, with a very subtle color block color peeking through. Very low maintenance, but still very styled.
He carefully applied two colors (one slightly brighter) to a small section of my hair using thermal papers. I sat under this fancy space age dryer reading an oversize Vogue Decor book and after fifteen minutes he shampooed my hair. Although, this shampoo was more like the hair version of 7 minutes in heaven. He gently massaged my scalp while he washed out the color and applied Oribe shampoo and conditioner. I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the best shampoo of my life.
Then he set to work cutting my hair. He started working his way through my wet hair with the scissors, then started to blow dry and style my hair. He finished the cut dry and shaped my bangs with a razor.
Of all the products he used, I fell in love with Oribe's Hair Refresher, which has quickly become a new favorite product in my hair lineup. It's perfect for next-day hair, just a little fragrance and cuts that pesky static. I was happy to go home with a bottle! I left Station Row feeling and looking amazing. What do you think of the result?
I'm absolutely in love with my new cut and color and I can't wait to go back for my next big cut. Matt was a fantastic stylist and his experience and attention to detail is apparent in his work. I highly recommend Station Row if you're looking for a new salon. It has all the glamour, sophistication, and quality of a Newbury Street cut in a breezy, serene atmosphere you won't find in Downtown Boston. Thanks so much to Station Row for inviting me out!
I was provided a complementary cut and color for review purposes. All opinions expressed are my own, Station Row is just that fantastic.
